Rabbits can cause significant damage to young roses by nibbling on bark and new shoots. To protect them, install rabbit-proof fencing around individual plants or the entire rose bed. The fence needs to be at least 60-90 cm (2-3 feet) high and buried 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) deep to prevent burrowing. Individual tree guards or wire mesh cylinders around young plants can also provide effective protection, especially in winter when other food sources are scarce.
