How do I care for a fig tree in the UK?

Fig trees are relatively low-maintenance but benefit from the right care. Water regularly during dry spells, especially while the fruit is forming in summer. Feed in spring and summer with a high-potash fertiliser (like tomato feed) to promote fruiting. Mulch around the base in spring to retain moisture. Remove any small, undeveloped fruit in autumn as these won't ripen over winter. Protect young or container-grown figs with fleece or straw in very cold areas.
