The rose leaf rolling sawfly larva causes rose leaves to curl tightly from the edges inwards, forming a cigar-like roll. Inside the roll, a small, pale green caterpillar-like larva feeds. The damage is primarily aesthetic. Hand-picking and squashing the rolled leaves (and the larva inside) is the most effective control for small infestations. No chemical control is usually necessary or recommended due to the protective roll and limited damage.
