Frequently asked gardening related questions

When is the best time to aerate a lawn in the UK?

In the UK, the most effective times for lawn aeration are during the active growth periods - spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October).

Of these, autumn is generally preferable because the combination of cooler temperatures, regular rainfall, and active root growth allows the lawn to recover and regenerate quickly.

Spring aeration can help repair damage from winter and prepare the lawn for summer stress, but should only be done once the soil is no longer waterlogged and grass is actively growing. Avoid aerating in winter (growth is dormant) or during summer droughts, as recovery may be limited.
