September in the Cotswolds Garden

Cotswolds Garden 25th September 2019

September brings the start of meteorological Autumn. Whilst flowers are still blooming and veg patches still producing thoughts turn to preparing the garden for the coming months.

Leaves may not yet be falling from the trees, but you should be ready to clear them as soon as they do to prevent pests and diseases thriving.

Now is a good time to give the lawns some loving. You can sow or turf new lawns or bare patches and scarify/aerate established lawns.

I will be starting to take hardwood cuttings from roses and will document this on my Instagram page (cotswoldgarden) so that you can see how well (or badly) I get on.

Now is also a great time to be planting spring bulbs, as you will no doubt be aware if you have visited a garden centre recently!

Finally, I will be preparing to force hyacinths and narcissi for Christmas (sorry to mention that word in September!) and planting onion sets for next year.
