Excellent drainage is fundamental for rose health. Roses abhor "wet feet" and will quickly suffer in waterlogged or persistently soggy soil. Poor drainage deprives roots of essential oxygen, leading to root rot, which is a major cause of rose decline and death. It also contributes to fungal diseases on foliage. Ensure roses are planted in well-drained soil, or on raised beds if your soil is heavy clay, to allow their roots to breathe and thrive.
