Frequently asked gardening related questions

When should I top-dress my lawn?

Top-dressing your lawn involves applying a thin, even layer of a specific mix (often sand, loam, and compost) over the grass. This practice is best carried out in autumn (September/October) or spring (March/April) when the grass is actively growing but the weather is not excessively hot or dry. This allows the lawn to recover quickly and the top-dressing material to integrate well.

Top-dressing helps to improve soil structure, enhance drainage in heavy soils, fill in minor hollows to level the surface, and encourage denser, healthier grass growth by providing nutrients and stimulating new root development. It's often done in conjunction with scarifying and aerating for optimal lawn health.
