Cotswolds Garden - FAQs
Frequently asked gardening related questions
Keeping your lawn healthy during hot UK weather is essential to prevent it from turning brown and dormant. The most important step is to raise the cutting height of your lawnmower. Longer grass blades shade the soil, reducing moisture evaporation and keeping the roots cooler. Aim to leave the grass at least 5-8 cm (2-3 inches) long.
If you need to water, do so deeply and infrequently (once or twice a week) rather than lightly and often. Water in the early morning or late evening to minimise evaporation. Avoid applying fertilisers during heatwaves, as this can scorch the grass. Similarly, refrain from scarifying or aerating, as the grass needs to recover from any stress.
