Galls on roses are abnormal swellings or growths on stems, leaves, or roots, caused by insects (e.g., rose bedeguar gall wasp, midges) or fungi. The plant reacts to the irritant by producing these growths. Rose bedeguar galls are distinctive mossy, reddish-green growths. While often unsightly, most galls don't severely harm the rose. Remove and destroy galled stems to reduce populations. For root galls (e.g., Crown Gall), remove and destroy the entire plant, as it's bacterial and incurable.
