Natural soil amendments in organic gardening are materials added to improve soil structure, fertility, and biology without synthetic chemicals. These include compost (the most important), well-rotted animal manures, leaf mould, worm castings, bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal, rock dusts (for minerals), gypsum (for clay), and greensand. They work by feeding the soil food web and slowly releasing nutrients as they decompose or break down.
