How to care for magnolias after flowering?

After flowering, magnolias benefit from continued care to support their growth. This is the ideal time for any necessary pruning (removing dead, diseased, or crossing branches, or light shaping). Ensure they are adequately watered, especially if dry weather follows blooming. A light top-dressing of well-rotted compost or a slow-release fertiliser around the base will replenish nutrients. Continue to monitor for pests and diseases, and keep the area around the base mulched to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
