What is rosette disease on roses?

Rose Rosette Disease (RRD) is a severe viral disease, primarily spread by eriophyid mites. It causes distorted, witches' broom-like growth, excessive thorniness, reddened or purple foliage, and stunted, deformed flowers. There is no cure, and infected roses will eventually die. RRD is a serious threat; immediately remove and destroy (do not compost) any suspected infected plants and the surrounding soil to prevent further spread. Always buy roses from reputable nurseries.
